“Fire Engine RED is sort of a ‘Google meets Apple yet no one gets stabbed in the cafeteria’ sort of place.”
– Jens Larson, uofadmissionsmarketing.com
By The Numbers
Team members who work virtually. Because we’re 100% virtual, we’re able to hire top people, no matter where they live.
Team members who worked in higher education prior to joining our company.
Team members who were born in countries other than the U.S. and Canada. Dominican Republic, England, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, and Peru, to name a few.
Team members who have furry friends. The last we checked, our team had 43 dogs and 22 cats. And every day at Fire Engine RED is bring-your-pet-to-work day.
When our CEO & Chief Creative Officer, Shelly Spiegel, founded our company, she named it after her favorite color, “fire engine red.”
Team members who play at least one instrument, including: the baritone sax, bass, clarinet, djembe, drums, euphonium, flute, French horn, guitar, piano, recorder, saxophone, trumpet, veena, violin, tuba, oboe.
What We Value
As DaVinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” That’s our inspiration for simplifying anything and everything we can get our hands on.
Just because something’s never been done, doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
We believe good design is good business … and we’re proof you don’t need an Apple-sized budget to create a design-centric culture.
From CRM to Student Search and Predictive Modeling, data is at the heart of everything we do.
Our goal is to “wow” our clients again and again. Acting in the best interests of our clients is what makes us successful.
At Fire Engine RED, being a superstar isn’t enough; you have to be a team player as well. The dream works only when the team works.
Where We Are
We have no central office! In fact, we’re spread across 20+ states and one Canadian province.
We’ve been all remote, all the time, since we were founded in 2001. And because we’re a 100% virtual company, we can hire the best people, no matter where they live.
Who We Are
We’re a diverse group: about 11% of us were born outside the U.S. … and 22% of us speak a second language.
We’re one of the very few privately held tech companies with a female CEO. And our company is about 50% female and 50% male … yes, sort of like the world in general.
Many of us came from the world of college admissions, so we know exactly what it’s like to be in our clients’ shoes. And many of our creative people have worked on brands you know, such as Apple®, Disney®, eBay®, Intuit®, and Sapient Razorfish®.
How We Bond
Our Fitbit Walking Group, formed to encourage our team members and clients to stay active and healthy. The “Fire Engine RED & Friends” group is open to anyone with a Fitbit performance tracking device or account. More than 30% of our team members participate!
Our Virtual Book Club, which meets via conference call on a quarterly basis. Past selections have included: Admission by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan, and Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain.
Our REDuce Your Bills Day, which saved our 60-person-plus team a combined $25,000 a year. Our CEO put together a tip sheet with practical ways to lower our bills. Then we took an entire day “off” to call cable providers, cell phone companies, insurance agents, and others to get better deals.
